Instructor Rank - $48,000 to $63,142
Assistant Professor Rank $49,637 to $67,448
Salary is restricted to above range and will not exceed the maximum of the range. Salary offers are non negotiable and offers are determined and are based upon related work experience submitted on resume.

The Learning Specialist will focus 50% of their time providing academic support for students enrolled in the general curriculum as well as non-credit/Workforce Development classes.  This specialist will spend the remaining time managing a caseload of students with academic accommodations.  The position also includes course support for the Cross-Institutional Studies Certificate (XISC) program students and instructors as admissions/advising support for perspective XISC students.   Travel to LCCC sites is required at times. Some evening and occasional weekend hours are required.  The Learning Specialist reports to the Associate Dean for Student Learning and Organizational Development.

Funded Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze individual student learning needs through observation and informal assessments. Utilize the results to develop specific learning strategies and individualized assistance.
  • Assess student disability documentation and utilize information in conjunction with student meetings to create academic accommodations.
  • Provide proactive support to ensure the appropriateness and effectiveness of academic accommodations.
  • Assist faculty in developing modifications of course requirements for audited classes.
  • Consult with subject-specific and generalized tutors in developing a team approach to delivering learning strategies and academic improvement initiatives.
  • Work cooperatively with faculty, administrators, and staff to address students’ learning support needs and reasonable academic accommodations.
  • Enhance student success through the provision of additional learning support activities, including coaching and supplemental instruction.
  • Offer periodic study skills sessions and workshops to enhance students’ academic success. Partner with other Educational Support Center staff and departments to provide additional areas of expertise to further assist students’ learning development.
  • Maintain privacy of student records in accordance with FERPA and protect sensitive disability diagnosis information.
  • Maintain records and data collection system that aligns with grant funding requirements and facilitates effective program evaluation.
  • Assist the Dean with data analysis to determine the effectiveness of service in supporting students’ learning goals and outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments, seeking input from faculty and staff about the related goals, objectives, and services of the Educational Support Center.
  • Consistently communicate information regarding College engagement activities and career services to assist students in involvement in the LCCC campus community.
  • Collaborate with faculty to assess and address student study skills development through workshops tailored to specific disciplines.
  • Maintain logs/data system for all activities performed and have them available for grant and supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Serve on College committees and advisory boards, as assigned.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities In addition to College-sponsored activities, maintain professional development and currency learning support strategies, technologies, and best practices.
  • Perform other College-related duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • (Foreign degrees – must provide a U.S. equivalency report of your degree credentials.)

Certifications

  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Cogent Clearance Fingerprinting)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Minimum two years of experience teaching or providing learning support for postsecondary students.
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Knowledge of ADA laws as applicable to college experiences and accessibility. Must have a thorough understanding of universal design and reasonable academic accommodations.
  • Commitment to the goals and mission of a comprehensive community college with open admission.
  • Desire and ability to assist students and establish rapport with faculty, administration, and community representatives.
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bi-lingual, Spanish or Arabic.
  • Knowledge or experience conducting learning skill assessments.
  • Experience in computer-assisted instruction.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
